Description
A high quality South Eastern & Chatham Railway oak single fusee drop dial wall clock, in beautiful condition, originating from the personal collection of renowned railway clock expert Ian Lyman. The 12inch dial is elegantly proportioned with inscribed ‘B.R.(S). 1634.S.E’ and signed ‘John Walker, 1 South Molton St, London’, surrounded by a cast brass bezel with thick bevel edged glass. A small scratch to the front surface of the glass is barely visible. Purchased by the S.E&C.R at the outbreak of WW1 and in use at the Electrical Repair Shops, Slade Green, the movement back plate is delightfully hand engraved with the makers name ‘J. Smith & Sons, Clerkenwell, 1914’. The rear of the dovetail jointed back box is stamped ‘1634. S.E’ and the side door carries an original brass identification plate numbered ‘1634’. The 21inch high pendulum bob is also nicely stamped ‘1634’. Retaining all its original features and impressive collection of railway branding this stunning wall clock runs well and keeps good time. Comes complete with the original cast brass key. Please view the reference book - Railway Clocks, Ian P. Lyman, page 202, Figs 6.97 & 6.98 for further reference to this clock.
