Description
An elegantly proportion SECR / LCDR drop dial clock constructed from solid teak with dovetail joints and attractive flame cut veneer finish to the front face. The 12inch dial with original cast bezel has been re-written in later service life 'B.R.(S). 1174.S.E' and signed 'John Walker 1 South Molton St London'. One side door carries an original SER brass number plate stamped '1174' and the back of the box is also clearly branded '1174 SE'. To confirm the authenticity of this clock, the brass bezel hinge and rear of the fusee mechanism are also stamped with the clock number 1174. The rear of the dial has a range of railway repair shop markings referencing the clock identity. The pendulum has been re-purposed from another clock at some point in railway service with the original clock number 1100 struck out and re-scratched 1174, to complete an impressive collection of original identification markings. The quality chain driven movement with turned pillars has been sensitively serviced and runs well, keeping good time. Southern Railway records indicate service life at No.4 Platform, Loughborough Junction, South Yard Weighbridge Office Blackfriars and Longhedge Station. Please view images for condition details.
